Our children have been very busy this week!
The week started with the Mad Science Assembly on Monday. The children loved it and now all want to be mad scientists. Which is really lucky because Mad Science will be back in school running a club later on this term. Letters will be sent out very soon.
Chesterfield College Engagement team came into school on Wednesday to work with our school Ambassadors. It was the first in a series of meetings where the two teams got to know each other and elect Chair, Vice-Chair and Secretary.
Mrs Sutton’s Year 6 led Wednesdays assembly about showing good manners.
On Thursday Miss Garbutt took two teams to play Boccia at Tibshelf Community School. Boccia is a target game similar to bowls but competitors sit on a bench rather than stand to take part. The children learnt how to play the game and then took part in over five games competing against other schools. The children tried really hard and they all scored points by rolling the ball closest to the white ball. We are now looking into purchasing our own school Boccia set so these children will be able to show others how to play.
Also on Thursday some Year 5 & 6 participated in the local sports hall athletics event held at Frederick Gent school in South Normanton. The children participated in a variety of athlete events such as track events: relays, obstacle relays and sprints. Also field events such as: jumping and throwing events. The children gained invaluable experience on what was for many their first athletics events and thoroughly enjoyed participating against other schools.
The Year 1 children watched Tim Peake take part in a space walk live from Nasa TV on Friday. He is the first Briton to ever complete a space walk.
Don’t forget Mr Lynch’s challenge – design a poster to promote the new Super Bands Behaviour system.
