Assessment and Progression

The Government has made a huge change in the way that children are to be assessed. This is to coordinate with the revised curriculum 2014. Assessment will look very different to how it has done for the past few years. Schools now have the flexibility to set up their own system of assessing children and their learning. Our system will be very similar to the Early Years Foundation Stage, taking the end of year expectations for each year group and splitting these into the following three categories:

 

Emerging

- yet to be secure in end of year expectation

 

Expected

- secure in the majority of the end of year expectation

 

Exceeding

- secure in almost all or all of the end of year expectations and is able to use and apply their knowledge and skills confidently

 

Each child will be continually assessed throughout the year and this will inform teachers which of the above three criteria is right for the child.
